Pirates of the Caribbean 4 trailer

December 31, 2008 · Comments Off

As best I can determine, this trailer is the real thing. Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp are listed in the cast credits but there is no reference to Orlando Bloom.

The IMDB says the movie is scheduled to be released in 2012. Even ComingSoon.Net doesn’t presently offer much information.

We’ve been tracking rumors at SF-Fandom but don’t have any other information than this. In fact, I’m writing this blog post before I start a thread at SF-Fandom.

The trailer seems to show some new footage, which may only be “proof” footage not intended for inclusion in the film. It looks like they are reusing some footage from the first three films, too.

Geoffrey Rush had indicated earlier this year he would be interested in doing a fourth movie, but I haven’t found any news about his inclusion in the cast. It would be a shame if Captain Barbossa doesn’t return.

Stay tuned and I’ll find out what I can.

Trailer for Roland Emmerich’s ‘2012′

December 30, 2008 · Comments Off

The Mayan calendar, we are told, foretells world events until the year 2012, when it simply stops. Now, some people might suggest that the Mayans simply ran out of room on which to carve hints about the future in their magic rock.

Other people, however, suggest that the Mayan calendar ends the year the Earth ends. And that is where Roland Emmerich got the idea for his latest disaster flick, “2012″.

Never mind the fact there is not enough water on the Earth to bury the Himalayan mountains, the special effects in the trailer are nonetheless pretty cool.

I liked “Independence Day” and “Stargate”, which Emmerich co-produced with Dean Devlin. When those guys worked together (through Centropolis Films, which they have since sold off), they created real movie magic.

Lately, their work has been a little off. But maybe “2012″ will turn things around for Emmerich. Time will tell … won’t it?

Harry Potter trailer and Beedle the Bard

December 30, 2008 · Comments Off

There is a new trailer out for “Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince”. It looks pretty good.

And if you’re keeping up with J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter franchise, then you probably already know that Beedle the Bard is 2008’s fastest selling book. According to that article from the Guardian, the book is selling 2 copies every second.

According to USA Today, Rowling knocked Stephanie Meyer (Twilight) out of the top-selling position on book lists. Meyer fans need not worry, however. She still controls the remaining top 5 positions.

And it’s all for a good cause anyway, as Beedle the Bard’s proceeds benefit charity.
