I found the trailer for “Riese the Series” and shared it on SF Fandom a few days ago. “Riese the Series” is a professional or semi-pro Steampunk Web series being produced by SixSix8 Productions.
This video is a brief “Behind the Scenes” look with actor Ben Cotton.
Here is a brief primer from the official site:
Riese, a seemingly random wanderer, is being hunted by a terrifying religious cult, The Sect. Traveling from nation to nation for years, she is accompanied only by a wolf, Fenrir. Together they must evade the assassins sent by the Sect – who’ll stop at nothing to complete the task they failed to achieve many years ago.
Her past is shrouded in mystery, as even Riese can’t recall the events of the tragic night when her entire family was slaughtered and she was forced to flee into the wilderness. On her journey, she’ll piece together her past, and her destiny, in a conflict that will hold the fate of the world in the balance – and the once peaceful kingdom of Eleysia will be the battlefield.
Well, any movie with Sam Neill in it should be pretty good although I think he has been in a couple of stinkers. Other leads include Willem Dafoe and Ethan Hawke. Isabel Lucas, who caught the eyes of many young male fans in the second “Transformers” movies, also has a major role in the movie.
The premise is that by the year 2019 some sort of plague has transformed much of the human race into vampires. The majority of remaining humans are captured and placed in blood farms. A small group of vampires may have found a way for everyone to get along.
Here’s the curious thing about this movie: IMDB and other sources say the movie opens on January 8, 2010 — but if you scroll down the IMDB page to the comments you’ll find that someone has written a long, thoughtful, fairly detailed review of the movie.
In what looks like an homage to Japanese anime, monster movies, and Jim Henson’s muppets, this innovative film tells the story of how gigantic creatures made of stone struggle to find their place in a world filled with little creatures called men.
This is, in my opinion, an exceptional quality student film and if this guy doesn’t find a career path in the movie genre, then we’ll all have lost out. George Lucas, are you listening?
