Australia honors four SciFi Actors

Cate Blanchett, Russell Crowe, Nicole Kidman, and Geoffrey Rush are being honored on Australia Day (January 26) for their career accomplishments. The Australian government has issued collector stamp series celebrating each of the actors and their most well-known roles.

I’ve enjoyed watching all these actors in many films through the years. Their collective achievement (winning Academy Awards) is remarkable to me in that all four have appeared in fantasy movies: Nicole Kidman most recently appeared in “The Golden Compass”, Russell Crowe stars in the upcoming “Nottingham” (some might argue it’s not really a fantasy movie), Cate Blanchett recently co-starred in “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button”, and Geoffrey Rush played Captain Barbossa in “Pirates of the Caribbean”.

You can see the sets available at Australia Post’s Stamp Shop.

I extend my personal congratulations to these four actors for the recognition Australia has bestowed upon them.

Russell Crowe was in a genuine SciFi flick back in the ’90s – VIRTUOSITY, which also starred Denzel Washington. Pretty poor movie, but Crowe was deliciously arch as the virtual reality serial killer who manages to break out of the computer and wreak havoc in the real world.
