And Here Come the Interviews with the Tolkien Scholars

Janet Brennan Croft is the editor of Mythlore, a peer-reviewed journal of literary studies that focuses on the work of J.R.R. Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and the genres of myth and fantasy (okay, I quoted the Website for all that).

Janet is also a published Tolkien scholar who has studied his life and works with a special interest in his military career and influences. But she’s much more accomplished than that, and she seemed a worthy candidate to kick off a brand-new series of articles to be published under the category of Interviews with the Scholars (which is a not-so-subtle nod to Anne Rice, although I have no idea of what she thinks of Tolkien).

Each week the Middle-earth Website at Xenite.Org will publish an interview with a new scholar. Upcoming interviewees include John Garth (Tolkien and the Great War), John Rateliff (The History of The Hobbit), Michael Drout (co-editor of the Tolkien Studies journal), and Wayne Hammond and Christina Scull (J.R.R. Tolkien: Artist & Illustrator).

Hammond and Scull, by the way, have a new book (The Art of the Hobbit) which is due to be published in the United Kingdom later this month.

And all that is a preamble to the actual “Interview with Janet Brennan Croft”, which hopefully will be of interest to Tolkien fans everywhere.

Do please let me know what you think of it.
